Designing lane heatmaps sceptical DC managers trust
By Nari Han
Heatmaps fail when managers assume colours are judgmental rather than diagnostic. We co-design legend copy with shift leads so every band ties to a physical action—pull, watch, escalate—rather than abstract scores.
We then stress-test palettes under sodium lighting and cheap monitors, not designer laptops. That work is tedious and absolutely necessary; skipping it is why pretty dashboards die on the wall.
The closing section covers governance: who may override a colour band, for how long, and where that override is logged. Overrides are not shameful; silent overrides are.
